Aloha mai kakou! I am in my second year in the LIS Program on the archival/special collections track. I am also a graduate research assistant for Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge where I work on two initiatives, Engaging Communities in Education and Knowledge Well, the school's new digital repository. I also volunteer at the Hawaiian Historical Society and the Bishop Museum Library and Archives. I am interested in exploring the power community repositories have in building strong, healthy, empowered communities. When I am not running around like an overly caffeinated student, I enjoy watching films, the OWN network, and Glee, listening to movie scores, running, and spending time with friends and family.
Kealii Mackenzie, Vice-President
I am a Master's student in Library and Information Science at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. My research interests include Indigenous librarianship, Traditional/Indigenous Knowledge systems, primary source preservation, and knowledge organization. I am also a poet whose poems have appeared in: ‘Oiwi: A Native Hawaiian Journal, Radium, and Mauri Ola: Contemporary Polynesian Poetry in English (Whetu Moana, Volume II).
Tamara Martinez, Treasurer/Secretary
I am a third year Master's candidate in the LIS Program on the School Media Track. For the past five years I have worked (and continue to do so) for Hawaii Literacy, a non-profit organization. I manage two libraries located in two public housing developments and work directly with youth, parents, and several community partners and volunteers. My passions include multi-cultural literature, gardening, and independent films.
Lea Anna Hoffman, Public Relations Officer
Currently in my second year of the LIS program, I have been focusing on academic librarianship. Information literacy and library instruction has been very interesting to me as well as the preservation of information and history. I hope to find ways for academic libraries to connect with students as technology seems to be pushing them further from the physical library.
